WIT (Who Is That) is a Portugal-born street artist known for sharp, playful interventions that turn everyday city life into quick-hit punchlines. Now in his early 30s and currently based between Lisbon, London and LA, WIT keeps his identity private—letting the work do the talking while the question behind his name stays open-ended.
Rooted in stencil work and fast, clean execution, WIT’s pieces blend humor with a quiet bite: a wink at politics, consumer habits, and modern loneliness, often delivered through simple characters, bold silhouettes, and a single line of text that flips the meaning of a scene. The influence of classic European stencil culture is clear, but WIT’s voice is lighter on cynicism—more mischievous than bleak—using irony as an invitation rather than a weapon.
He began painting in Portugal in the late 2000s, moving from hand-cut stencils and paste-ups to multi-layer compositions that read like visual one-liners. His work has appeared on walls, shutters, and temporary construction barriers across Southern Europe, with occasional sightings in major U.S. cities—always unsigned, always intentional, and often gone as quickly as it arrived.
WIT’s practice is built around the idea that art doesn’t need permission to be intelligent—or funny. If you’ve seen one of his pieces in the wild, you’ve already participated in the point: you stopped, you looked twice, and for a second you asked the only question he ever really wants you to ask—who is that?
